The Hazards of Podcast Multi-Tasking

Tutivillus
Yesterday (Feb. 21st) the DungeonPlace podcast and the Masocast podcast joined forces for an hour of kinky discussion. It was great!

But, I had some technical difficulties and I have to apologize.

First, the Chat Room kept crashing, so we had to abandon that, due to time constraints. Sorry, it will return, promise!

Second (and this has also been resolved)…I didn't record the podcast. (I'll wait for that one to sink in.)

How is this possible? Well, Multi-Tasking is something I'm typically good at, but completely failed at yesterday. The recorder I use is a fully self-contained unit with a two step recording process. You hit the button once, it goes to "Pause" so you can check levels and make adjustments. Hit the button again, you start the actual recording.

Well, we were doing some other recordings before the podcast and I got distracted, leaving the recorder paused during the entire show.

(Headsmack)

No worries though. Unspeakableaxe, the esteemed host of Masocast pulled my ass out of the fire. He recorded the bulk of the show (until he had to leave) and is gracious enough to send a copy on over. The rest of the show is actually easy to fill. There may be a slight delay posting it, but we will have the episode in its entirety!

Thank the underwear gnomes for friends and collaboration!

And thank you @Unspeakableaxe and the entire DungeonPlace crew for a great episode!

eReaders – Have they changed your reading habits?

Tutivillus

I read Charlie Brooker's article in the Guardian "Why I'm an ebook convert" and a particular passage struck me.

"…But the single biggest advantage to the ebook is this: no one can see what you're reading. You can mourn the loss of book covers all you want, but once again I say to you: no one can see what you're reading. This is a giant leap forward, one that frees you up to read whatever you want without being judged by the person sitting opposite you on the tube.

…The lack of a cover immediately alters your purchasing habits…I went on a virtual shopping spree, starting with the stuff I thought I should read – Wolf Hall, that kind of thing – but quickly found myself downloading titles I'd be too embarrassed to buy in a shop or publicly read on a bus."

Damn! A bit of the Revolution I love! Finally we can all pretend to be the adults we wish our governments and leaders would allow us to be! No more Plain Brown Wrappers, no! We can sit with our eReaders and silently order whatever the hell we want!

…including blogs…like ours! You could read the posts, view the pictures and Listen to the podcast! all on that wonderful device.

Sure…it's pretty much a monochrome flat for now, but that's changing – quickly.

What are your thoughts on this?

Pixilated Titillation – have you tried Cyber?

Gamer

Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, Wave, Buzz, Messenger, Yahoo? How many do you use? And, perhaps more importantly, how many do you use to look for/contact partners with?

With online dating, and instant conversations,  I wonder if  ’ The age of deception’  wasn’t reborn?  We are able to chase the partner of our dreams and find them (anywhere in the World), although unless you web-cam, or meet up, the person using pixels could well be deceiving you in some way.  While they could just be shy, they can also be a vastly different age, height, weight, could be a vice-squad sting team looking for pedophiles, or lying about what sex/orientation they are.

Does that really matter? Are you looking for a hookup? Then the truth probably matters a fair bit. If I was wanting sex with a beautiful, younger, athletic, intellectual women I’ve clicked with online and be tapped on the shoulder by Bernard, an older guy with receding hairline, bad teeth and severe B.O. I’d be angered because I’d been lied to, and it’s not what I’m after. I’m pretty open minded and will happily have a conversation with anyone no matter their sexual orientation (pedophiles need not apply) but I also know what pushes my buttons when it comes to arousal.

However, if you’re looking to have your senses stimulated by the above “beautiful, younger, athletic, intellectual women” then if you’re not seeing ‘her’ or actually going to meet up, then who cares if Bernard is getting his rocks off at the same time, pretending to be his alter-ego and swapping deviant desires and getting jiggy with you?

The point is, to look at what you want and create the encounter that satisfies on the level you want/need (and yes, for all involved). Cyber may not be the complete answer to real life sexual and BDSM encounters, but circumstance or ’simple’ shyness may require a release in a more discreet manner. I suggest everyone should at least try cyber. Even if it’s not as fulfilling as you expect or want, it can be a fun option.

After all, isn’t the path to great sex/kink achieved through mental build up of some sort?

Measures of Trust and Coffee

Tutivillus
Coffee Shops are the foot-worn neutral ground where many a groundwork is land and relationship made. Sit in one that gets trafficked and you'll spot them – couples, threesomes, groups – all tentatively probing and feeling; establishing the basic foundations from which they will either build something or leave a marker.

DarlingEvil and I are no exception. We know our coffee, our shops and our routine well! Meeting someone(s) to discuss possible future encounter(s) is a dance. Between the two of us we hand off the conversation, ask leading questions, glide into stories and jokes meant to relax the situation. It's a group effort not only for our benefit, but the person(s) on the other end as well.

Coded words, phrases, looks, touches pass between us. If red-flags rise for one the other knows immediately. If the situation is riding well in calm water, we carry on into greater depth.

Our intentions, expectations are set up front with possibilities left open. In the end this is all about fun and growth for all. I don't know that either of us could build trust in a situation with too many restrictions — and I think that plays true for anyone we meet. Yes, we'll provide the needed structure, but picture a forest rather than the frame of a skyscraper.

Then there's the coffee…if that's good? Well, a trip can never be wasted — can it!

Google Buzz and Privacy for Kinks

Tutivillus

You have undoubtedly heard about this Slayer of Social Networks. If you’ve been reading the hype, you’ve probably heard about the “Privacy Flaws” hidden within the Buzz. (Excellent Rant, BTW!)Yes…you need to take care with Buzz and you need to go under the hood to tweak the settings. A lot of Sites have already covered that…but I’ll go one step further.

Many of us (Kinksters) have multiple email (Gmail) accounts.

Use the account that is NOT connected to your Vanilla Life!!!

It is that simple.

For example, I got Buzz before most people (don’t ask, Google likes me). Once activated I saw what it did…oh yes, I saw. Immediately I used Google Labs to export my carefully crafted filters into one of my other accounts that was more suited to my Kink Life.

Once complete, I imported the Contacts I wanted into that account.

Voila! Now I was ready to activate Buzz in that account. Bang and Presto! I was buzzing in kink safety.

I also switched the email addresses of any associated accounts (Twitter, etc.) that I was pulling into my Buzz feed to use ONLY the new Gmail address.

Another helpful hint?

I used two browsers (both operating in Privacy Mode) to log into both Gmail accounts simultaneously. This made the above processes MUCH easier and faster to complete.

Have fun!
